The design of the ARCUS City residential complex creates a compact urban unit with a natural centre and public space in the form of a semicircular square. The character, scale and public space of the whole complex represents a very good opportunity for suburban living in relation to the Řepora landscape biopark.

"The intention of the project was to create its own home environment where different age groups of residents will live and create their own community with facilities. This forms a semicircle with a square where there is a high-rise building with several shops, sports facilities and space for a restaurant. There is a bus stop in the middle, which facilitates the residents' direct connection with the surrounding areas and the centre of Prague. This entire residence is connected by a pedestrian path along the upper edge of Řepora, including a cycle path. The semicircle is a British urban tradition that is materialised in a different form. The semicircle also creates safety, a boundary, belonging."

Urban design:

The composition of the selected design is based on the shape of the terrain of the building plots, which create a large natural shallow bowl not dissimilar to the former clay pit with a brickyard - today called "Řepora". At the same time, the design of the masses envisages the transition of the urban structure into the landscape.

In the natural centre of gravity of the half-column composition is located the main central public space of the complex with small public amenities, a supermarket, a dentist's office, refreshments and a children's playground. From this point, where buildings G, H, I stand, radial pedestrian routes run out towards the six buildings A - F. To the south, the space is defined by the axis of the backbone service road V 93 - Na Výrovně. This road forms an important compositional frontage of the site and also separates two functional areas from each other in terms of regulation according to the zoning plan. This frontage is also designed by the composition of a pair of symmetrical buildings. L, M. ( now Timber Praha) along the mentioned road.

Architectural solution:

The actual architectural design is based on the original urban composition. Each group of houses according to its location has its own architectural character. Nevertheless, the houses are designed to create a unified character of the whole area.

The houses are designed as staircase sections with multiple flats on one floor built using classic brick (and monolithic) technology.

Residential buildings J, K and L, M Timber Praha were modified during construction and are built as wooden buildings. They are wall systems constructed on the basis of CLT panels.

The Timber Prague project represents the first multi-storey apartment buildings made of wood in the history of the Czech metropolis. The modern apartment buildings made of CLT panels include a total of 62 units with layouts from 1 + kk to 4 + kk, ranging in size from 39 to 110 sq m. Each apartment has its own cellar, parking space in underground garages and a balcony, terrace or front garden.

The wooden structure of the Timber Praha project is made of spruce wood, the exterior facade cladding is made of larch. Wood is also used in the interior of the apartments as a visual element on the ceilings of living rooms, corridors and staircases. The underground floor is built with a reinforced concrete structure. The plinth and staircase in the common parts of the buildings are also made of concrete. Houses in the most energy-efficient category A and with BREEAM Excellent environmental certification have a number of modern technologies in the apartments for comfort, ease of use and energy savings.
